Those brackets can be purchased off of eBay already fab'd up as a universal kit. Here are a couple examples:

Wow that little x19 is so cool need to make some inquire about the  frame mods to support the mid engine in the MG that looks very good. Blower would fit without changing front suspension  8) way to  8) cause its like truck with 35 inch bfgs old school against a one with 42 irocs NO comparison. it has to be sick right away sorry NOT..

Last Wednesday I went up to Bevin's house to kick-start his motivation with this project. The two of us cleaned out his MG and Bevin got to sit in the drivers seat for the first time EVER. He has owned the car for NINE YEARS and has not once sat in it yet. Hopefully this gets him going with it!!

On to the pics!

If you check the pic in the top banner, you'll notice his car served as a storage shelf. So the first thing we did was take all the stuff off the top of the car

Check out the sweet rollers the car is sitting on. MAN these are N-I-C-E!

Check out the stock powerhouse

This is a twin cam 1.8 liter BMC engine 8) We're talking 87 HP @ 5,500rpm and 105 TQ @ 2500rpm WOOT!

Next it was time to start on the interior. W-o-w what a mess. The stock carpet was like some old 60's style shag'n carpet. Everyone really was doing drugs in the 60's & 70's :o

The interior took the most amount of time to clean, and it was a lot of work. As a result, I didn't take many pics except for the large trash bag we completely filled up (this bag is a good 4-feet high!)

Finally, here is the shot of the driver's side interior cleaned out (still have a lot to clean on the passenger's side)

There is some floor pan rust but it doesn't appear to be rusted through. At least not from first inspection. We'll have to do some grinding to figure out the extent of damage.

Here is another shot of the gauges. 6,000 RPM redline and 120 MPH on the speedo 8)

Check this out, this is 1 of 2, yes 2 battery bays behind the seats. The car featured two 6-volt batteries, and the system is a Positive ground, meaning that all metal points on the chassis and body are a positive +12volts (opposite to what we have today)

ok bevin this is what you need, screw the f20c and the k-series motor, if i were to built a honda i would do this build, this is comparing the g23 built against a k24 vtec which is supposed to be the big boy of all honda motors now.  this is using 100% all stock honda parts interchangeable and will produce over 200++ hp and would be bad ass.  if you want to go mid-engine then look into doing a H2b or G2b if doing this setup using a adapter kit http://www.quartersportsdrag.com/Kit_Contents.html to mate to a B series tranny for better gear ratio.  the reason why they called it a g23 is because your using a f23 block which is a 2.3L out of a accord single cam and using a h22 vtec head mated onto the f23 block which is G23 because in the alphabet, its "FGH" so they used the G cause its in between F and H in the alphabet.  theres also many ways on mix matching honda motors,  LSvtec which is a b18b or b18a non-vtec using a b16 vtec head which is like a non ported and cammed version of the b18c5 type R head and also can use b18c1 head off of a GSR integra vtec same with a later b20 which cam in the honda CRV.  but enough with the B series, where talking honda big block here! H and F series can be interchageable but im not sure if the s2k f series is, last i heard some guy in honda-tech.com was doing a k20 head onto a h22 block and made over 300 hp

here is a web site on how they compared the G23 against the K24:

http://www.importtuner.com/tech/impp_0902_k24_vtec_versus_g23_vtec_tech_knowledge/index.html

ive heard of all motor h-series doing over 300+ which is insane

I plugged in some basic specs into CarTest, taking data from here (http://www.mgcars.org.uk/MGB/mgbspec.html). That site says the weight of the MGB is 2000 pounds, so I just went with the same number.

Using the red engine in the above dyno with a S2000 6-speed (F20C version).

Results using 13x50x225 tires:
0-60: 4.5 seconds
0-100: 10.4 secs
1/4 mile: 12.8 @ 114.7 MPH
Top Speed: 172 (redline limited)

Results using 13x40x225 tires:
0-60: 4.3 seconds
0-100: 10.1 secs
1/4 mile: 12.8 @ 112.4 MPH
Top Speed: 157 (redline limited)

The setup desperately needs a lower final drive. This wouldn't be that hard with the rear end in the FR configuration (using S2000 trans and rear axle). The stock 4.1:1 S2000 rear diff is waaaaaay too tall for this car. It needs at least like a 4.5:1 or maybe a 5:1 if you want to run 15" or 16" tires. With the 4.1:1, you'll be limited to 13" wheels pretty much. Also I have no idea if a 13x40x225 exists, I am just trying out some practical numbers.

Screen Shots:
1st pic is the car data I used
2nd pic is with the 50-series profile tires
3rd pic is with the 40-series profile tires
Title: Re: Bevin's MGB Motivational Thread
Post by: BigMike on November 19, 2010, 11:14:58 PM
Some notes:

- Sorry I keep forgetting the year of the MGB, so I guessed on the 1972. :headscratch:
- It is likely that the actual car will have more than just 55%

Here is the same car running the B16A 5-speed transaxle in a mid-engine configuration.

I adjusted the tire size to match approximately the same redline top speed (for a more even comparison)

Results using 14x60x225 tires:
0-60: 4.2 seconds
0-100: 10.1 secs
1/4 mile: 12.6 @ 115.2 MPH
Top Speed: 172 (redline limited)

Results using 14x50x225 tires:
0-60: 4.1 seconds
0-100: 9.9 secs
1/4 mile: 12.6 @ 116.4 MPH
Top Speed: 159 (redline limited)

1st pic: Specs with 45% weigh over front axle (it's a mid engine now). Also not engine location difference.
2nd pic: 60-series tires
3rd pic: 50-series tires

The verdict:
So pretty much no matter what you do, if the car weighs around 2000 lbs and has 240 to 250 HP, you're gonna run mid to high 12s in the quarter. HOLY CRAP MAN!
Title: Re: Bevin's MGB Motivational Thread

Hey Bevin,

Listen, this is what my car is doing stock right now. Even if you had just 200 HP -- ran the stock H22A engine -- you will SMOKE ME!! And I LOVE my car, it has enough power to get me in a LOT of trouble! It is a LOT of fun to drive in the mountains right now. Yes there is a lot more potential for my engine once I start modifying it, but honestly speaking, I have enough fun in the hills to keep my mind off of the measly 145 HP. :yesnod:  I can't imagine how fast your car will be with 55 more HP and 400 pounds less weight. WOW :o :o :o

My Car Stock 145HP (14x60x195 tires)
0-60: 7.2 seconds
0-100: 18.6 secs
1/4 mile: 15.3 @ 90.8 MPH
Top Speed: 136 (drag limited)
Time to Top Speed: 117.82 secs

Bevin's car with Stock H22A 200HP (14x50x225 tires)
0-60: 5.2 seconds
0-100: 11.6 secs
1/4 mile: 13.4 @ 116.4 MPH
Top Speed: 142 (redline limited)
Time to Top Speed: 25.14 secs

1st pic is the specs of my car right now as it sits outside my room
2nd pic is how my car performs on paper

3rd pic is the MGB with a 100% stock H22A with 5spd + mid-engine
4th pic is how this MGB performs on paper

And lastly, the 5th pic is a drag race between my car (Green), the MGB with a stock H22A 200 HP engine (Teal), and the MGB with the built G23 (249 HP). I super-imposed the resulting 1/4 mile results for comparison. The numbers to the left are occurring at the exact moment the G23-powered MGB hits 1/4 mile. Check out the G-force (acceleration) comparison! wow

Ask Chee if he thinks a 13 second street car with street tires is fast or not

My question is, does the block used bolt to any existing FR transmission? Or is it strictly FWD?

Negative. AFAIK it will only mate to a FWD Prelude transaxle, that for some reason I don't know about, people don't like. So there is a company (see Chee's post) that makes an adapter to run an Integra transaxle with the Prelude engine.

As for a RWD, Bevin would need to get a Prelude bellhousing and a S2000 bellhousing and make a hybrid, or use a Toyota trany like a W55 or W58 from a Supra. I'm sure there are many other options (Miata trans?) and it's also possible to build a thin bellhousing adapter (like the ones Chee mentioned) depending on the length of the input shaft of whatever trany he goes with.

I wonder if KEP would make the proper adapter plate. I know they make adapters for just about everything to mate to a VW trans.

You might consider one of the esier swaps for a FR set up. How about a Nissan SR20Det? Nissan Sylvia! The Toyota 3SGTE, parts are not too hard to find for a FR setup. The J-spec Altezza was powered by a dual VVT-i and produced 250 hp! N/A! Both the engines mentioned are very capable of 300 + hp with just tuning! Both engines also have high torque output! Maybe one of the newer V6's!? Lightweight, gobs of power, and relatively easy to get.

Okay Bevin,

Here ya go

If these guys can do crazy builds like this, then so can you :best:

Here is a mid-engine Prelude conversion, this is an exact option you are considering:

Look ma, no engine:

And here is some crazy wacko who swapped in a V8. Check out the work he did. You can do this type of work to the MGB and get a Prelude engine in there in a rear-wheel drive configuration :_order:

Ok,

I found out the red prelude with the V8 conversion is using a RX7 rear suspension. Also, he abandoned the project and parted out the car. Dang that was a lot of work for nothing...

Yup, I think this is how you should do it. Get some sub-frame assembly like this that you can just retrofit under the MGB. The IFS will handle better, and you can still put in a limited slip and do some drifting  :driving: :boobs: :burnout:

Got another engine to think about! The Mazda K series! Really quite small in stature! At 1.8 to 2.0 liters for a V6. Pretty high revving engine wit 143 to 167 hp and 116 to133 pounds of torque! The 1.8 had a red line somewhere north of 9000 rpm in some MX-3 models too! The 1.8 produced 143 hp @ 7000 rpm, and 116 lbs of torque @ 5500 rpm. The 2.0 was at167 hp @ 7000, and 133 lbs @ 5500 rpm. After the 2.0 liter the blocks started growing. The K series uses alloy block and head, with the block being a 2 piece split at the mains. 60 degree V6, narrow angle valves. Mazda used a VRIS, variable resonance intake system, using manifold accoustics to tune the intake to the engines RPM.  I've wanted one since I read about them years ago. I drove an MX-3 with one of the higher revving engines. I think the rev limiter never kicked in, I was shifting at around 9700 RPM! No need to go farther than that 'cause the power dropped sharply after 9000 RPM. Sounded awesome! Even with the factory intake system. Hmmmm, 9000 RPM V6 with ITB's? In your car Bevin? In an MR2?

If you wanna go Turbo with a crap load of power, Chee likes the 2-liter Turbo Mitsu engine. 210 HP stock, up the boost for 300 hp easy all on stock parts

I have that 4G62t in my garage. Came out of a Tredia. Get the trans out of a Mitsu pickup and you're set. Another idea is the 2.6 from a Starion. You might have access to one soon enough, if Chee gets his JZ. The 4G62t is a 1.8 liter with a decent output. I believe the stock output was 135 hp easily upgraded to about 160 with just intake aqnd exhaust mods.
Title: Re: Bevin's MGB Motivational Thread
Post by: BigMike on December 18, 2010, 11:24:44 AM
I'll tell ya right now he doesn't want the Starion engine. He is looking for a simple high revving engine, not a big and brute large displacement motor.
Title: Re: Bevin's MGB Motivational Thread
Post by: Sirdeuce on December 18, 2010, 12:07:17 PM
I've been around guys that have the 2.6 spinning to 8,000 rpm! Sound like stock 4AGE revving.
Title: Re: Bevin's MGB Motivational Thread
Post by: Sirdeuce on December 18, 2010, 12:27:01 PM
The 4G62 is rev happy once the turbo kicks in. Really only suggested the two engines above due to the possible ease of availability on the 2.6, and the one in my garage is available now. And if Bevin went with the 4G62, the switch to a 4G63 is almost a drop in change, uses the same mounting points. Minor changes in the wiring. Minor exhaust possible. I don't really want anything for the engine. I think I still have all the parts too. The turbo still turns freely. Just tring to help out.  It's alway easier when parts are available and cheap.
