Bad news, Trump won. good news, legal pot.

I would say the same if Clinton won.

Projects and Build-Ups / My latest '87 AW
April 26, 2016, 08:13:05 PM
Pics would be nice, I know, but just a note here.
Silver MR2
I've installed my GC/Koni struts with TTT camber plates. Matrix Garage rear tie rods and TTT front strut rods, urethane bushings throughout.
Steering rack was rebuilt with Quaife quick steer rack. I'll be taking it for an alignment later this week.
I did a "Plumbly" mod on the rear wing. I'm in the process of putting LEDs in the rear visor to act as a third brake light. I have an "Extreme Dimensions" front bumper cover for future installation.
Engine is going to be a 7AGE, currently in the shop for balancing and boring. More details later.

Chit Chat / NO ONIONS!!!
February 29, 2016, 08:39:19 PM
How hard can it be? It's not like calculating the velocity of an asteroid hurtling through space towards earth and we need to know how long we have to live, it's putting six, no wait, five, duh, no onions, together. Thing that really sets this one particular incident aside from others is that the guy that took my order told the guy building the burger " no onions" four times that I heard, WHILE THE BURGER WAS BEING PUT TOGETHER. Not like there was  a big rush on, only two burgers were ordered. Both were on my order. Minimum I.Q. requirement for the job, 12.

Chit Chat / More CA SMOG program complaints
January 07, 2016, 01:52:16 PM
So, more problems with the smog program/inspectors/stations. As anyone that knows me knows, the SMOG program is my windmill. Welcome to one of my Quixotic episodes.
Why do we have to have so many levels of test station? Test and tune, STAR and of course the test only station. The DMV selects the station you go to.
"Gross polluter"! What the heck is this? The vehicle fails, BADLY, and now, after you repair the car and test it again, it passes! But now you have to test the vehicle EVERY year until the BAR deems it can be test biannually again.
Stations are turning cars away if they are too old (??? If the car is too old it's flipping EXEMPT!). Too modified? Talking suspension mods, absolutely NO relation to the emissions equipment. One from last time I had to smog one of my MR2s, too low. Really? The suspension was stock, in every respect. Also got that one on my FX16, which is lower than stock, but my Mazdaspeed3 is actually lower in stock form. WHY??
Ignorant inspectors. The guy that bought my FX16 took it down to several smog stations. Most turned him away on the aforementioned reasons. When he got one to test the car it failed. Failed for "missing equipment". The equipment in question is the A/C idle up solenoid. The car has NO A/C equipment, from the factory, NONE! But the vacuum ports are capped, from the factory. Now, on the vacuum diagram there is no reference to these ports or the alleged missing equipment. The car was failed for this? Everything else was in place and the car passed the sniffer clean. Again, WHY?
Next time I get turned away with the reason being 'it's too old' I'm going straight to the BAR and requesting them exempt my car.
They need to do something about this stupid program. I'm not against having our cars run clean, just the way they go about it. Poor conception, poorly managed. Shouldn't have to stress on something like this every two years. The "gross polluter" needs to be abolished.
Other states are closing their smog programs for vehicles. California is making the states program stricter.  Stricter on older cars, more lenient on newer cars. Someone needs to pull their head out.

General Automotive Talk / New fuel possibilies
November 19, 2014, 01:00:11 AM
I came across this, kinda late, tired, so no articles to post. I do have this site http://www.sunfire.de/en/. Supposedly they have developed a process to convert water and CO2 into a synthetic fuel.  Time for bed, maybe get more into it tomorrow.

Bill's Ricer Lighting / Ebay LED lights from China
June 01, 2014, 04:43:05 PM
Been playing with these light strips for a bit now. I bought a bunch of 5 meter strips on ebay and I really like them. First, I use a 1 meter strip on a battery with a solar charger. Lights my living room as well as a 100w incandescent bulb. Pretty good for a semiconductor! On to the lighting in my cars.
I used 2 30 led 'festoon' sets in the dome light in my FX. The old light shed barely enough light to find a Mountain Dew on the floorboard. The LED lights
are bright! Bright enough to see the sand in the rug! So I used the strip lights, cut into sections 3 leds long and made my own 'festoon'. Installed into the cargo light next to the hatch in the FX. See how that goes tonight. The light that was there barely glowed anyway. The oil dipstick is usually hard to see in these cars, even in the daylight. Now I have led lighting to help me there. The FX is going to be a Christmas tree by the time I get done with it.

Engine Theory / Williams Helical Camshaft
February 08, 2013, 08:39:06 AM
Came across something rather interesting today. Imagine a camshaft that has indefinate adjustability in it's duration!! A coaxial helical camshaft! Not that it would work in the limited space of a 4AGE head, but just the idea is awesome! helicalcamshaft.com Check it out!

Chit Chat / Driving impressions, rants and raves
October 08, 2012, 09:12:15 PM
I've driven my share of cars. Owned a few as well. Currently have a Corolla FX16 GTS and Mazdaspeed3. Both cars are an absolute kick to drive.But....... As a devout Toyota fanatic, I hate to offer praise to any but Toyota or bash a Toyota in any way. Too bad in this case. My wife and I took a Corolla 'S' on a trip to the SF Bay area this last weekend and the only definition I can come up with for the 'S' is sleepy, snooze, subdued, snore and so on. A manual trans may have helped, but I think not. The suspension is not as good as the suspension in my '73 Celica, more akin to an American luxury car(boat on the water).  The absence of any noise from the engine can lull you into a coma on a trip of any length. Steering feedback is like an American luxury car, none. After a trip into town I have to take a nap, it's that boring. What happened Toyota?? Did you lose a bet with Nissan or Honda? Get back to what you once were and stop disappointing. If the Corolla has turned into this traquilizer, and is any indication of Toyota's current idea of of , I think I'll pass on the Scion FR-S.

Chit Chat / Red, White and Blue
September 18, 2012, 07:19:51 PM
I just learned the true meaning of the flag!! 'Tal boils down to the colors, red, white and blue. Y'all should take this to heart, it's what this country is built on, by and for. Red neck, white trash, and blue collar.

Suspension / Roll center adjusters
September 03, 2012, 04:15:39 PM
I have metal in plate form, 1" thick, in both steel and aluminum. I also have a set of blocks for my MR2 that can act as templates. The rear tie rods need to be given adapters to lower them. The front, I'm not sure how to go about that. Either raise the rack or rework the steering arms. Mike, Know of anyone that can properly bend our steering arms for a 1" drop?

Suspension / steering
September 01, 2012, 08:32:30 AM
To tighten up the steering on an AE86 we would replace the power steering knuckles with non power steering knuckles. The steereing is quicker. Lock to lock is reduced. Make the car more like a go cart. Power steering....... The MR2 is pretty light in the front end, and steering is pretty easy as it is. But in the interest of reducing driver fatigue I have a thought of installing power steering. I can take the rack out of my black AE82, along with the pump and brackets. The lines would have to be fabbed, but that won't be too difficult. Just a thought.

Roll Cage & Safety / Brakes
September 01, 2012, 08:17:11 AM
Since 'safety' items are not included in the cost limit, let's get a trip to the wrecking yard set up. We need the calipers from an early 1990's Celica GT. The caliper piston is supposed to be 46mm as opposed to the stock 38mm(?).  They bolt right up to the stock mounts. The size differential will provide more baking force from less pedal pressure reducing driver fatigue. Might look into brake rotor diameter comparison as well. Would be nice to find a vented rotor compatable with the rear hub.

Projects and Build-Ups / Project P.O.S.
March 10, 2012, 08:49:22 PM
1987 Corolla FX16. Gettin' it back on th' road. Little car has been sitting for about four years, let's see how it goes. First thing was to make sure the engine would still run. Check fluids, drop in a battery and turn the key. After a few seconds of cranking, the engine came to life. SWEET! It  runs! Now to fix the reason for parking it in the first place. Motor mounts were all broken and the shocks are dead.
The motor mounts are the first chore. Ordered, received and installed. Installed, but not without a few problems. First, the mount for the front of the engine was wrong. Not too bad to fix, as I simply had to change the bracket bolted to ther block. Had one the was right for the mount, done deal. Tranny hanger, no problems. Dropped the crossmember, bolted the new mounts to the brackets on the tranny, bolted the crossmember in place. Now I see why the mounts all broke together. The brackets on the trans were installed wrong! The front to the rear and so on. The entire powertrain is pushed forward about an inch! Reinstalled the mounts in the proper places and everything fit pefectly. Started the car to move it back to it's place in the driveway. What a difference! Right from the start I could hear a huge difference in the noise transferred to the chassis. I'd drivin this car for a few years this way, it was so noisy!.
