Update
B license  all gold
A license  all gold
IC license  8 gold, 2 silver
IB license  all silver
IA license  8 silver, 2 gold
S  license  2 gold, 5 silver, 3 bronze
Currenmtly at level 26, just.
Found out that a couple of the trophies you can get are surprizes! Hidden trophies in clude!! Rollover and total your car! And one that is proving to be harder than iy might seem, knock a part off your car. Yeah, smash the Veyron into a concrete barrier at 250 mph and it stays intact! Yeah right! Out side of that, I have 120 cars in my garage!
The side chalenge that I had sooo much fun with is the TOP GEAR challenge! First, the beginner level.  VW micro busses any one? The track at TOP GEAR is a figure 8 set up! I know, let's run 2 separate groups in 2 separate sections! Now the challenge is to not hit, or get hit! VW kubelwagons and schwimminwagons at 50 paces! I damn near fell out of my chair when the Kubelwagon directly in front of me got taken out by a schwimminwagon!

4 hours of Tsukuba! Lap 166, my thumbs are bleeding! Lap 200,MEDIC!! Lap 221, end of race!! 1st-2nd gap is 21 laps! Spent most of the time pusing the other cars off the track.  :yikes: Is that bone I see prodruding from my thumb?! :yikes:

Post by: BigMike on December 16, 2010, 06:32:45 PM
So if the 1st place guy was 21 laps ahead of the 2nd place guy, that must have put you at about 82 laps behind in last place?  :rofl3:

Got into the endurance segment of the game. 60 laps of Grand Valley, 4 Hours at Tsukuba, 90 laps at Laguna Seca, and then for S&G, did the 60 lap Grand Valley race again. The nail on my left thumb is separating and a hard calous is forming on the inside tips of my thumbs. Man I gotta get a wheel!

What do you think about the 3rd corner on Grand Valley? I always take it too wide and wind up scrubbing a lot of speed.

3rd corner, usually wide open, maybe tap the brakes with really fast cars or less sticky tires.

Well the issue is if you take it too wide, then you mess the entry line for the 4th corner.

I have the same problem with the Eiger Nordwand track on the 8th and 9th corners. You can't take those flat out or you'll be in the sand pits!

Age of Empires is the best game ever programmed. Here is a short video of some simple gameplay. I've played through Epic 8 player battles that lasted over 12 hours, EPIC I tell you!!

A steering wheel for GT? What a novel ! Maybe I should get one. You think it might help? I'm currently placed in the 1800's on Eiger Norwald drift trials. Maybe a wheel would get me into the 1700's! :burnout:
Title: Re: Gran Turismo 5
Post by: Sirdeuce on January 04, 2011, 08:12:02 AM
Bypassed the 1700's, with a controller. Not too sure a wheel would be much better anyway. Last place I was in the standings was 1682nd place.

Place on Eiger is now 1451. Weapon of choice is, of course, an AW11 S/C. As if anybody had any doughts.

I'm trying to get to the GT Academy finals but finding the physics at the absolute limit are getting a bit weird.

Finally found an AW11 (NA!) in the used dealer the other night.  Haven't driven it yet.  I do have this mid-engined Toyota though:

Bill how did you like that Top Gear Elise test?  It's a hoot with no aids! :applaus:

I actually did the VW Microbus about 20 times on theTop Gear track. I laughed so hard! Then th Kubel and Schwimmer wagons got me going! When the first Kubelwagon got taken out I couldn't finish the silly tthing! Too much laughing. I'll have to do the Elise yet though. The car in the top pick? Corolla? TC? I like the exhaust out the side! Not too sure how or where to apply that to an AW11 though.

Post by: Sirdeuce on January 05, 2011, 07:07:56 AM
A small note on the VW Microbusses. I've had a few of these in my life. Great little vehicle to have! Never had one that was as slow as what is in the GT world though. I did have a '74 type 4 with a 2 litre that would smoke the tires the whole 1/4! When it got traction it would run low 15 second 1/4's! Surprised a LOT of people! My favorite was the '66 17 window with a ragtop! Wish I had that one today!!

It's the Lexus IS (http://www.pbase.com/bryanh/image/131529286/original), or whatever they call it in Japan now.  Apparently in SuperGT this car is converted to mid-engine.  Crazy huh?  Those ports on the rear door are fuel fillers - the exhaust comes out the back like a normal car.  :yesnod:

BryanH, is the picture of your IS from actual gameplay? If so, ummm then, WOW I gotta try something newer than Gran Turismo 2 LOL!

Two nights ago I learned from Bill that the Top Gear test track is in the (newer) game(s), that is so awesome I want to play it so bad. I have a question on this for you guys: If you take the same car as tested on the show by The Stig, how do your times compare to the Power Lap board? I am not asking this to see your skill level, but rather I am very curious as to the accuracy of the game compared to what The Stig is doing. I mean, if you are like 5 seconds faster than The Stig (which is A LOT for such a small track) then I'd tend to believe the game or the track are not so accurate... This is what I am curious about, thanks!

Um, yeah, you do. ;)  I've got it set up on a cheap wheel here, let me know if you want to come over for a test drive some time. :)  That IS picture is from Photo Mode, which is basically just a way to take a screen shot in game and get wheel blur effects, for example, if you want them.  The graphics are insane.  I've got lots more Photomode pictures here:  http://www.pbase.com/bryanh/gtphoto (http://www.pbase.com/bryanh/gtphoto)

You want some fun Bry? Get to the endurance section and do the 1000 kilometers at Suzuka! 172 laps on Suzuka's twisting course!  In the rain!! Yee haw!!
Title: Re: Gran Turismo 5
Post by: Sirdeuce on January 13, 2011, 01:18:43 PM
Aw geesshh, I just pitted the car. Don't start the rain races on racing medium tires! :smack:  I forgot to change them for the weather!. It was a lot of fun, to say the least! Oh yeah, the car is the ARTA NSX. No mods. I think a car with less output would do better though. I was going for something similar to what was competitive, but I think a car likw the ARTA Garaiya would be better for this race. A little lighter and half the power. Probably use the cars power better and spend less time in powerslides. Or maybe a wheel and pedals would help.
Title: Re: Gran Turismo 5
Post by: Sirdeuce on January 13, 2011, 09:09:04 PM
Ok, finished the 1000Km at Suzuka! Scratch the Garaiya idea. Start the race with rain tires. Around lap 70 the rain starts to thin out.  Pit and put an set of soft race tires on Run about  14 laps on those and change to medium racing tires. Run the medium to about lap 100 and change back to soft as the rain begins to roll back onto the track. The rain never comes back to what it was in the beginning, so no need to put the rain tires back on the car. You should have 5 laps on second place so pit as often as you want for the last half of the race. Calculate the fuel needed for about 12 laps and just keep the fuel level low for the weight savings. Pitting every 12 laps will keep you at the +5 laps to the end of the race. Make sure you have the time for this race, it'll consume about 6 to 61/2 hours. Ice your thumbs when you finish!!

Got my car for reaching level 35 today! The Red Bull X2010! What a beast!! Sure wish cars like this existed in the real world. If you are one that has this game, don't purchase the X2010. You get one when you get to level 35! Sure is better than building a 20,000,000 credit balloon and popping it for one. Spend the credits on a bunch of smaller cars to get to you goal of 1,000 cars in your garage. Oh yeah, the X2010 approaches 300 mph and holds so hard you don't have to let up on the Indianapolis speedway! Balls out and screamin'! I would advise having a wheel to run this beast, it is VERY responsive!

Hmm, maybe.  It's time for bed now but the short version is I won the national finals in Florida and earned a trip to Silverstone Circuit in England for a week-long racing school and boot-camp where I'll be competing with 15 others from the US for a drive with a pro race team.  I have 2 months to get in awesome physical shape and I haven't done any exercise in 12 years.  Oh boy. :)

What I end up doing after that will depend on how well I do and what other opportunities might present themselves.  The future is uncertain...

When I started with this silly game I ripped through the licenses just to get them done so I wouldn't be held back on anything for not having a license. I didn't realize I had about 20 or so tests that weren't gold. All gold now! I have all gold on ny races with 4 events to finish. I do dread the 24 hour races. Got over 600 cars in my garage. Finished the B-spec races, what a waste of time. I need to work on the special events now.  Definately a fun way to waste the days.  :driving:  Now time to get the real car going. :burnout:

Finally got a wheel for this game...........sucks. Went from blazing times to soso times. The force feedback is rediculously stong! Even on the lowest setting it's 5X what I get from the MR2 or even the 3 during torque steer. I have the thing mounted on a TV dinner table for now(half the problem I'm sure, tosses the table on the higher feedback setting),SUCKS!! Definately a transition to take time on.

Finally getting used to the wheel. I can consistently score in the top 1% of the online times in the time attack. Half the time I can place on the board ( top 256 places ). Still get mt better scores on the drift events with the controller though.
