General Performance Talk / Fuel Tank Considerations
April 11, 2010, 03:55:51 AM
Okay,

According to Google Earth and the projected Buttonwillow LeMons track, the short version is about 2 miles per lap and the long version is about 2.7 miles per lap.

Consider the following data:

Fuel Tank     |  Average MPG  |  # Short Laps per tank  |  # Long Laps per tank
Stock, 9gal52216
9gal + 5gal53526

.
Stock, 9gal83626
9gal + 5gal85641

.
Stock, 9gal104533
9gal + 5gal107051

.
Stock, 9gal12.55641
9gal + 5gal12.58764

.
Stock, 9gal156750
9gal + 5gal1510577

From a previous Buttonwillow LeMons event, the winner's average lap time was 2:50mins completing 281 laps total. I am not sure which track version this was raced on. Here is the data:

Fuel Tank     |  Average MPG  |  Hours Per Tank if Short Laps  | Hours Per Tank if Long Laps
Stock, 9gal51.070.79
9gal + 5gal51.661.23

.
Stock, 9gal81.71.26
9gal + 5gal82.651.96

.
Stock, 9gal102.131.58
9gal + 5gal103.312.45

.
Stock, 9gal12.52.661.97
9gal + 5gal12.54.143.07

.
Stock, 9gal153.22.37
9gal + 5gal154.973.68

.

edit: Additional calculation of this data shows that the 1st place car either averaged 42 MPH (if they raced the short track) or he averaged 57 MPH (if long track). Hey Bryan! What was your lap time again in the MR2 on Buttonwillow for the full length track?

Check this out, Team Eyesore Racing has their own Facebook page:

http://www.facebook.com/EyesoreRacingTeam

The application for LeMons says they want to see a webpage with pictures of our progress. We could always create a Facebook Page for our team once we figure out a team name?

Team Meetings / Let's spectate an upcoming event
April 08, 2010, 11:14:27 PM
Hey guys,

I think it would be a good idea to spectate an upcoming event so we can see how the tech is run, how the race is run, and talk to as many people there as we can to gain as much insider info as possible :D It is $20 per person to spectate. Hopefully pit access is available because that is where we would learn the most.

Here are some upcoming events:

8-9 May 2010
Goin' For Broken
Thunderhill Raceway Park, Willows CA

7-8 August 2010
LeMons Arse-Sweat-Apalooza (Northern California)
Thunderhill Raceway Park, Willows CA

14 August 2010
Concours d'LeMons
Toro Park, Monterey CA

Regarding the May 8-9 event, that will be 1 week before my finals so I am out. But the other two events in August are perfect for me, I can make either event.

What do you guys think?

Chit Chat / My Motorcycle Crash
April 08, 2010, 11:01:43 PM
Thought I would share some pics of yesterday's motorcycle mishap

All I was doing was making a right turn onto HWY180 from north bound Fowler ave when the bike slid out from underneath me. I've been riding for over 5 yrs and have never had an accident before. There goes my flawless record :(

This happened at about 7:20am Wed morning. I was going between 20-30 mph when it happened. Just making a simple routine corner... The bike hadn't been used since last June and I suspect a number of issues may have led to this accident: I have no idea what the tire pressure is, there could have been dust and soot on the tires from me idling my truck in my garage which I do often (with the door up of course), tires and road were cold. There wasn't any sand in the road. Also I lost traction before the cross walk, so the paint did not cause it.

I was wearing my nice riding jacket, jeans, cold weather gloves, steel toed work boots, helmet (of course), and my backpack with my laptop in it. After it happened, I quickly got up, picked the bike up and set the kick-stand, and then walked around the road looking to see if I had dropped anything. I walked all over the place, and then jumped on the bike, turned around, and rode back home.

All that happened to me was a couple raspberry scars on my knees, a small rash on my right forearm, and a couple scrapes on my right hand. Then about 2 hrs later my left ankle starting getting tight. Then it started swelling. So apparently I sprained my ankle as well.

By lunch time Wed I could no longer put any weight on my left ankle and it was fully swollen. I figured it was just a normal sprain, but my wife insisted I go to the FSU clinic to get it checked.

Here are some pics of my battle wounds, my swelling left ankle, and the X-Ray showing a bone chip I sustained...

I took this pic after lunch. You can see how swollen my left ankle had become compared to my right:

And this pic was taken at 9pm. Now the whole ankle was really starting to swell:

Here are the X-Rays from today. They found a small bone chip. But it is strange that this chip is located on the outside of my ankle whereas the swelling is to the inside. The outside of my ankle where this chip is located is not sensitive at all. So maybe this has been here all along? They are not sure and are sending my x-rays to a radiology specialist for further investigation. They told me they will call me on Monday.

I have yet to look at the bike since I parked it. I'll try to get some pics of it tomorrow.

Hey guys,

I would like to point out that this forum category, "24 Hours of LeMons", is the only category on the forum that is hidden from the public eye. So please only post our sneaky LeMons plans under this category, which currently includes the following boards...

Let's do it!!
Team Meetings
Story Ideas
Engine
Suspension
Brakes
General Performance Talk
General LeMons Talk

Feel free to post up anywhere on the forum, but just remember if you want to keep something only related to the LeMons race team, then please only post it in one of the above boards. These boards are special hidden boards only accessible to the team.

Thanks!

My 6-speed conversion is finished and can be read about beginning at Reply #207 of this thread.

The 6-speed C6X transaxle is offered in the following two flavors:

1st2nd3rd4th5th6threvFinalApplication
C60   3.166   2.050   1.481   1.166   0.916   0.725   3.250   4.529   Matrix XRS and Vibe GT
C603.1662.0501.4811.1660.9160.8153.2504.529Celica GT-S and Lotus Elise

As you can see the Celica and Elise both use a C60 version having a 12.5% lower 6th gear compared to the Matrix and Vibe's C60.

For reference, here are some other transaxles to compare with:

1st2nd3rd4th5th6threvFinalApplication
C52   3.166   1.904   1.310   0.969   0.815   3.250   3.722   93-97 Corolla with 7A-FE
C523.1661.9041.3100.9690.8153.2504.312AW11
C563.1661.9041.3921.0310.8153.2504.312Corolla AE89 Close Range 3-4
C593.1661.9041.3100.9690.8153.2504.058Matrix 1ZZ-FE
E513.2301.9131.2580.9180.7313.5834.285AW11 Supercharged
C1603.1662.0501.4811.1660.9160.7253.2504.529AE111 20-valve

Interesting, the Pontiac Vibe & Toyota Matrix 6-spds share the same gear ratios as the 20-valve AE111 6-speed.

Also, there are different Final Drive ratios to choose from as well. Final drive ratios between C5X series are only interchangeable with C16X series transaxles. Unfortunately a C5X final drive will not mate with the C60 gear set. The C60 final drive must be used.

The best setup would be to get the 20-valve 6-speed and choose which C5X final drive to run.
Available C5X final drives are 3.526, 3.722, 3.941, 4.058, 4.312, and 4.529. The 3.7 & 4.3 are domestically available, the rest are only JDM and/or European.

Below is an attached Excel spread sheet Tire Size vs. Engine RPM Speed calculator to play with. It is quite nice. :D

General LeMons Talk / MR2 Scavenger Sales
March 31, 2010, 12:04:08 PM
4.7: Scavenger Sales: If you sell pieces off of your car, the money that comes back in can be used to offset the initial purchase price. Just be prepared to convince some exceedingly skeptical judges of the validity of all those transactions.

The 17" chrome wheels - $100? Bill might keep these so we can make a fake bill of sale
The seats - $100? I would really like to buy these for my Truck. I'll find a suitable replacement for the race (we only need 1 seat anyway)
T-Top Glass - I know ppl need these and I am sure we can get good $$ for them
Interior Parts - Too bad they are painted purple because I would buy some for my car.
Interior Carpet - I would like to buy this for my MR2.
Lights and Lenses - If Bill doesn't need them, I would like to buy these as spares
Front Bumper - If for any reason we don't use it, I will buy it.
Side Mirrors - If the Wink Mirror works out and we don't need the side mirrors, I'm sure we can see them plus the wiring loom and switches
Door windows, regulators, switches - I am sure we can see these
Rear Glass

This, THIS is AWESOME:

These last two are StyleAuto rear bumper kit. I know they aren't diffusers, more like "turbulentors", but I thought I would add them to the thread anyway.
