Hobbies / Radio Controlled Cars
November 29, 2010, 02:25:10 PM
I LOVE Radio Controlled Cars, always have always will. Blane525 was actually the one introduced me to the beautiful world of R/C cars.

Some R/C Cars I've owned over the years:

1:10 Associated RC10 (the original!) Sold it many years ago

1:10 Associated RC10T (the original with a stealth trans!) Still have it!

1:10 Tamiya Mountaineer - Still have it! 707:1 Crawl Ratio. You can find it on YouTube such as:
http://www.youtube.com/v/Fm0FWbxyy6k?fs=1&hl=en_US&rel=0

1:18 Nylint Rock Crawler - Still have it, extremely highly modified, Futaba electronics, converted to dual planetary and 4-link rear suspension

1:10 Axial AX10 - Still have it, fully built to the tilt. You can see it on YouTube such as:
http://www.youtube.com/v/Oqlg1830RZc?fs=1&hl=en_US&rel=0
My AX10 is the Green/White one.

1:10 HPI RS4 (the original) Belt drive and bad to the bone. Highly modified and runs a Lotus Exige body. She's good. I will post some pics later. It is a beautiful car that runs really really strong. Great cornering and handling, just ask Bevin!

Newsletters / New 2011 Races--Midwest and South Region

MARRIAGE TOO STABLE? NO LONGER: WE JUST ADDED 2 MORE RACES
In case a weekend in Fernley, Nevada wasn't enough to send your significant other to Match.com, we've just added a couple more events to the 2011 schedule.

First up is the Campaign to Prevent Gingervitis at Michigan's GingerMan Raceway on 16-17 April '11. Remember: If you like the post-apocalyptic feel of Detroit, just try South Haven!

Then, if you've ever been curious about what it's like to be stuck in a headlock from Andre the Giant while sitting in a sauna and banging your head with a mallet, try racing all night in Louisiana in mid-August. We had so much fun last weekend at Circuit Grand Bayou that Chief Perp Jay and CCB's Chris cooked up Cain't Get Bayou 2011, a sunset-to-sunrise race, for 13-14 August.

Both races have already been added to the reg system: See the full(er) 2011 schedule here, LeMons' driver-info page here, and the signup page here.

Cheers,

Nick

Engine Theory / What Supercharger is this??
November 26, 2010, 03:39:53 PM
Can someone please identify this Supercharger. I've been looking around online and I can't figure out what it is. All I know is it's a Twin Screw (DUH!)

Is this made by Autorotor ? Is it a Whipple?

Thanks-

Here is something to keep in mind...

When repositioning the radiator and redirecting air flow up and out through a reverse hood scoop, we are not only reducing pressure underneath the car, but we are also creating DOWN FORCE for the front axle

The green reaction force I drew is the vertical component. It's just for illustration anyway

So if we make sure the radiator is firmly supported by the chassis, we can take advantage of the "spoiler" effect from each radiator fin :yesnod:

So it's not just the air going over the hood and windshield, it's also the force acting directly on the radiator too

Cars / Pontiac Fiero
November 26, 2010, 02:50:45 PM
Much with my preferences for any other 1980s & 1990s American sports car, I really don't like the Fiero much at all.

But this Fiero just looks totally bad to the bone! I really like this one, what do you think?

Cars / Twin Charged V6 MK2 MR2
November 26, 2010, 02:30:15 PM
This is pretty cool

It is a 1994-2006 3-liter 1MZ-FE Camry engine. The base engine is rated at 190 HP & 193 TQ, and the base TRD SC setup is rated at 242 HP & 242 TQ (probably at 6 psi boost)

Now this is very interesting. The black torque band (earliest and flattest) is the Supercharger ONLY, the blue torque band (latest and peaky) is the Turbo ONLY, and then the red torque band is both chargers together. The horsepower bands seem strange. The Supercharged only HP band (green) is totally linear all the way to redline, which shouldn't occur with proper tuning. So I am assuming tuning was only done to the red band (compound twin charger). Pretty cool to see the three split bands like that!

307 HP & 279 TQ

    Bore/Stroke 82.0 mm / 85.0 mm
    271 bhp (202 kW; 275 PS) @ 8000 rpm[6]
    190 lb·ft (258 N·m) @ 7000 rpm[6]
    Compression Ratio: 11.5:1

Exige GT3 performance
    0-60 mph : 3.9 seconds[6]
    0-100 km/h : 4.0 seconds[6]

Newsletters / CMP '11 and Texas '11 Apps Due Soon!
November 25, 2010, 09:49:09 AM
CMP '11 & TEXAS '11 APPS DUE ALREADY?! OY....
Yes, Walmart started playing Christmas music at 12:01am the day after Halloween. And in another sign of the Apocalypse, the first two entry deadlines for LeMons 2011 are already looming. Entries for Southern Discomfort (at Carolina Motorsports Park on 19-20 Feb) are due Saturday, December 11; apps for Gator-O-Rama (at MSR Houston on 26-27 Feb) are due Saturday, December 18. (For driver info, go here; to see all 2011 races and deadlines, click here; to enter the damn thing, click here.)

NEW-FOR-2011 REG SYSTEM
Speaking of entries, should you be foolish enough to actually enter a race in '11, you'll notice our all-new reg system. Just like every redesigned BMW of the last 50 years, we figure this will result in one week of furious complaints followed by years of slavish devotion. That's our theory, anyway.

Where the old system was team-centric, the new one is individual-centric. In a nutshell, each team member creates his or her own online profile, which they can then keep and modify for as long as they want. To make a team, captains just add those profiles to their rosters, and bam--the team's done. Unlike before, you'll be able to retain team info from one race to the next; to run multi-car efforts from a single team page; and to tell annoying team captains to bugger off without losing the info you used to sign up.

You'll hate it, but just wait a week.

See you there--Nick
