That looked like it might be a little fun. What was it any way?

You know, thinking about this Sprite today, it is probably 1630 lbs without driver. The info states 370 HP to the wheels. So that is a 4.4 pound-to-Horsepower ratio.

Ok. That car looks and sounds absolutely fast. Then I realized something. This REALLY puts the Ariel Atom into perspective.

The Atom weighs 1000 pounds and is available with a 400 HP supercharged VTEC engine. Assuming that puts down about 350 HP to the ground, that is 2.9 pounds per HP.

2.9 lb/HP compared to that 4.4 lb/HP Sprite in the YouTube clip.......WOW

But that Sprite can actually use all its power. :)  Big slicks!

Couple of recent(ish) videos from me and my Miata exploits.  I'm always getting requests to drive these cars.  Not that I'm complaining - they suit my driving style quite well. :)

SoPac Divisional at El Toro, 2007 Mazda MX-5:

Insane courses for this 2-day event.  They were long, with several big sweepers (55-60mph).  Lots of fun.  The site is grippy too.  I won C-Stock by 4.5 seconds (the 2nd place driver is also a national champion from 2009 in another class) which in autocross is a beatdown (to set aside humility for a second).

Turbo Miata at Lemoore NAS:

Course design was a bit of a let down but it was the first event at this site.  The clutch was not disengaging all the way, hence the slow start and shift.  Still, a Miata with this much power is tons of fun. :)

Awesome videos man, that El Toro course looks REALLY AWESOME. I posted on the video but I may as well here... How does the Miata compare to your S/C MK1 and also to your MK2s ?

Yeah they have room for insane courses at El Toro.  It took 20+ minutes to walk the course once!  Those were some of the best courses I've ever driven.  You ought to think about doing an event down there, the site is "only" 4 hours from my house.

Which Miata?  The NC MX-5 is actually really difficult in a way.  There's no feedback through the steering (I'm really surprised at this) and there's basically no neutral balance in the car.  At least we haven't found it yet.  It likes to understeer but it's also loose at times so I'm constantly searching for either front or rear grip in a corner.  But it has surprisingly decent power and goes fast anyway.  It runs 245 Hoosiers all around.

The 1995 turbo Miata is more fun, but then it should be with 240rwhp at 2300lbs. :)  The older Miatas fit my driving style really well.  They don't understeer much and when they do, it's easy to fix, even with a stock engine.  They have good steering feel too for a power assisted rack.

Neither of them are very much like the MR2s.  MR2s are pretty unique in the way they drive.  Generally Miatas are easier to get fast times from. They're not as challenging as MR2s at the absolute limit.  Right now Mazda has great support for the amateur racer so it's been good for me to run Mazdas the last couple years.

That is awesome! Is this your red S2000?
