This has been done by some guys who made it look like a Testarossa and they all dressed up like Don Johnson in white suits.

Story Ideas / Bill: Redneck Ricers Hilbilly Delux

Bill's idea:

Redneck Ricers Hillbily Delux

  • Race in overalls, and show up to inspection carrying shotguns.
  • Glue ZZ Top beards to our helmets.
  • Run the car on ethanol.
  • Put the letters XXX over the fuel filler.
  • Paint a sign "Powered by lightnin'".
  • Put a stuffed pig in the back looking at the drivers behind us
  • Put straw down in the pit area. We can all talk like hillbillies.
  • Put a mock up still in the back of the car, run a tube around the exhaust, and run a little water through it. Make the still look operational.
  • Need to get a dukes of hazard dixie horn, or a porky's pig horn

Regarding the MicroSquirt, I have created a thread called Engine Management to continue the discussion there.

Engine / Engine Management

Ok,

I looked up pricing info on the MicroSquirt and it's gonna be around $300 - $400 new. I will definitely be getting one for my MR2, so maybe a month in advance I could pull it out and run my stock Toyota ECU, and then get the FX16 on the Dyno and get it tuned for the LeMons race.

So in other words, I'll donate this for the race :D

Originally posted in this thread, here are the pictures of the fully programmable and dyno tunable MicroSquirt:

And here is a stock 4A-GE computer that we'll install it into:

Marlin Crawler Lemon Racer would be pretty cool ;D

Regarding 140-150 HP, I plan on running a MicroSquirt stand-alone ECU that retains all factory sensors....I know you guys are familiar with MegaSquirt, well this is the smaller version which is so small we can fit it into the stock 4A-GE Toyota ECU housing:

Look how small it is!

I can easily stash that into this, using all factory Toyota plugs and wiring:

And just yesterday I stopped by Precision Auto Customs, right down the street from Marlin Crawler, owned by my very good friend Justin who was trained by Shelby and has his own Dyno Jet, and he has lots of experience with Mega and MicroSquirt and has all the software to do all the dyno tuning.

I am immediately going to do this with my 4A-GZE for my MR2 so everything will look stock and yet it will be fully dyno-tuned, so we could do this for the FX16 as well. I really doubt the judges have time to open up ECU boxes, and even if they did we could mount it upside down or put Toyota stickers on it, or put security paint on the screws so it looks like it has never been opened, whatever.

Then we could get it tuned on the dyno. We can set the rev limit, the idle speed, anything. So for the brick-throttle test we could limit the rpm to 7,400 or so (I'm sure they'll be looking at the tach) and for the race we can set it to 8,000 rpm.

Whatta ya think?

Brakes / Brakes
January 26, 2010, 06:04:08 PM
Bill made some good comments:

Regarding vented rear brakes (upgraded rear brakes), not so necessary with the FX16 since it's not a mid-engine like the MR2. The front brakes will be doing more of the work.

We need to figure out if we can find some larger front rotors for the FX16. Maybe Supra rotors or something from a heavier Toyota with the same 4-bolt wheel pattern?

Story Ideas / Story for the FX16

Here is the story on the FX16:

We will buy it from his daughter-in-law for $200.

We'll flatten the tires and put it out in ditch bank, dump some oil all over the engine and take some pictures of it all nasty and ugly, like it's been there for a couple of years, etcetera...

Then we'll all have the same story that when we got the car home and pulled the valve covers, it had some aftermarket cams and when we pulled the engine out it had a light weight flywheel already.

Suspension / Bill's Suspension Mods

Bill has the following great suspension ideas:

Get some Supra springs from a wrecking yard. They have a higher spring rate than the Corolla springs, and we can chop the Supra springs down a bit to lower the car 1" or so.

Next we can get some Harbor Freight car horns (I already have two I will donate) and install them like such so we can have a QUAD TURBO just like the Veyron:

Make the spoiler with plywood, actuated by a cable attached to the brake pedal.

Cable actuated! That is even more lemon-ish, the Judges would much rather see that over some fancy electrical gizmo crap. I don't like the plywood idea (weak and what if it rains) but it would sit better with the judges, would be cheaper and lighter than sheet metal, and we could bring a couple spares in care it breaks.

Grill, side, and roof-top modifications along with the red/black color scheme of the Veryon:

And here is a 4A-GE W16 - 16-cylinder with the 3 distinct cylinder banks. Just cut the one side of a valve cover off and bolt or tig weld it to the top of the intake manifold:
